Scott Boyd has been working in wood, fiberglass, stone, steel, and bronze since 1980. "Location as idea" animates his most recent series. "Sculpture is as much about an idea" says Boyd, "as it is about material, space, or volume – the idea of location as perception – the idea as medium." Influenced by the sculptor, Joel Shapiro, while at Yale in the 1980's, Boyd, like Shapiro, became more interested in how one thinks about something than in what it looks like.
